While motherhood presents its own sets of challenges and demands, for immigrant mothers it adds another layer of complexity to navigate around. To be born anew is a series that explores the multifaceted nature of motherhood, highlighting the trajectories and experiences of raising a child in a foreign country. Based on personal observations and conversations I have had with the subjects as well as other individuals, it was evident that the limited or in some instances, lack of a support system intensifies challenges within their own lives as a whole.

Exploring their expectations, feelings and perspectives of motherhood before and after pregnancy was also incorporated through a sequence of text written by the mothers. Not only was it incorporated as a means of better understanding the transformations of their personal journeys but to also give them the space to speak their own truths.

Through this documentary series, the intentions of the work aim to encapsulate motherhood from a fluid essence, encompassing and embracing the beautiful and challenging realities of motherhood.
